Craig Charles to debut new Croatian festival this July

CROATIA: The Garden and The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club have revealed plans to launch a new Croatian festival 2017, entitled Beats, Beer and Boogaloo. Taking place from July 13 – 17, the festival promises to be a unique fusion of craft beers from around the world and a line-up of ‘funked up’ live music and DJs curated by Mr. Charles himself.

Additionally, the event will feature boat parties, club nights at the renowned Barbarella’s, street food, tutored drinks tasting, a carnival procession through the streets of Tisno and more. The first round of artists will be revealed during the first week of March.

Beats, Beer and Boogaloo will be situated on the same site as the now defunct Garden Festival, which originally catalysed the region’s now thriving festival scene. After the festival concluded with its 10th anniversary celebrations in 2015, founders Nick and Charlotte Colgan then launched their most ambitious project to date – building from scratch The Garden Brewery in Zagreb, which has produced 17 different beers shipping to 25 EU countries, and has further plans for expansion in 2017.

The idea for Beats, Beer and Boogaloo started when Nick and Charlotte invited Craig over to Zagreb for a DJ show when The Garden Brewery opened. Discussions followed and the trio came up with the idea of a brand new festival for the region.

According to the organisers, the collaboration feels like a ‘natural unity’, bringing together The Garden guys’ many years of expertise, Craig’s encyclopaedic knowledge of music, and the thriving brewery. The legendary actor, host and broadcaster is one of UK’s most beloved funk and soul DJs. From Robot Wars to Red Dwarf, Craig has now grounded himself as a funk and soul icon after 10 years of broadcasting on BBC 6 Music via its primetime Saturday night show.
