Headliners shame are a bracing South London post-punk band with a passionate, political viewpoint, who have risen to fame over the past decade for their angst-driven anthems, whilst headliners Ibibio Sound Machine are known for their jubilant live shows and are inspired in equal measures by the golden era of West-African funk & disco and modern post-punk & electro..

The previous line-up announcement included British tuba player and composer Theon Cross, the infectious Isle of Wight indie rockers Coach Party, Mercury Prize nominee and Grace Jones collaborator Dave Okumu & The 7 Generations, experimental indie trio The Orielles, alt country inspired four piece Divorce, genre bending Irish collective Bricknasty, NME’s ‘essential new band’ mary in the junkyard and Miss Tiny, the new project from Speedy Wunderground’s (Wet Leg, Slowthai, Fontaines D.C.) Speaking about the announcement, Festival Director Joe Bailey said “we are really excited and proud to announce the headliners and next wave of artists for Brighten The Corners Festival 2024. To have such celebrated names as our headliners, shame and Ibibio Sound Machine, is amazing; it’s going to be a huge weekend for the town.

“We’re really pleased to bring a hugely eclectic line up to Suffolk and establish Brighten The Corners as a tastemaking festival with some of the most exciting names in emerging music, and we will also be announcing our Apply To Play winners in the coming weeks.

“We hope this festival will be where our audiences will find their new favourite band and experience live music at its best.”

Brighten The Corners is a multi-venue music festival in Ipswich known for its exciting lineups, unique venues, and inclusive atmosphere. It has been running independently since 2023 and was previously known as Sound City Ipswich. It has become a premier tastemaking festival that mirrors the pulse of the national music scene while uniquely showcasing the spirit of Ipswich.

Utilising the town’s selection of venues ranging from 70-900 cap, the organisers can confirm they will use The Smokehouse, St Stephen’s Church, The Baths, the Corn Exchange and the Cornhill as their main venues.

Brighten The Corners also continue their partnership with the University of Suffolk, which sees a three year collaboration naming the University as principal festival partner.
