UK: Since its launch on June 11, Festival Vision:2025’s crowdfunder has reached 100% of its initial £25k target, having received support from Festival Republic, Nordic Wristbands and a number of other UK companies and festivals. With 14 days remaining, the campaign has extended its goal to £35k in order to fund a ‘knowledge hub’ website and various resources to aid festivals in improving their ecological credentials.

Following the crowdfunder, Festival Vision: 2025 will launch an updated Show Must Go On report to provide guidance and inspiration to event professionals supporting the UK festival industry in reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025 in the key areas of energy, resource management, water, food & drink, travel & transport, and governance.

Festivals such as Hay, Greenman, Shambala, Boomtown, Reading, Latitude and Greenbelt have contributed so far.

Emily Ford, Sustainability Coordinator at Boomtown, has explained in a video interview how the festival built its environmental strategy on the framework put forward in the Vision:2025 pledge

Significant support has come from the Finnish company Nordic Wristbands, whose products are meeting the event market’s need for eco-friendly wristbands.

“Nearly 10 years ago we made our first wristband out of recycled plastics, and we are working hard to come up with solutions that enable us to use more ecological materials and omit plastics altogether,” said Jone Nuutinen, founder and owner of Nordic Wristbands. “Festival Vision: 2025 is a great platform to combine our voices and forces and to create a bigger impact.”
