Stornoway venue An Lanntair is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year which is to include a series of specially curated events as part of this year’s HebCelt Festival line up.

Focusing on some of the best loved projects produced by the centre over the years, the events will feature an impressive array of artists from the Hebrides and beyond.

Opening with Between Islands, which brings together musicians from the Northern and Western Isles, the week will also see performances of Forty/Da Fhichead, which premiered at this year’s Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, and the flagship project Hebridean Women, which will reach its own 20th year milestone. There is also another chance to see audio visual show Metagama, which tells the story of Island emigration to the Americas during the 1920s and 30s, along with ceilidhs, the late-night festival club and more.

Alex Macdonald, Head of Performing Arts said: “Although there are events taking place throughout the year to mark our anniversary, HebCelt week is a natural time to place a focus on a celebration of music, and of Island artists in particular.”

Those taking part include Kathleen MacInnes, Mishsa Macpherson, Norrie MacIver, Ceitlin Lilidh, Anna Murray and Alasdair White and Alex added: “We are both organisations who place local artists at the centre of our programming, and for good reason. Visiting artists this year include Arthur Nicolson, Jenny Keldie and Ross Coupar from Shetland, and in collaboration with the home team I can guarantee that all these island events will be world class.”

Michelle Shields, Artist Programmer for HebCelt Festival, said: “The line-up at An Lanntair for festival week is truly exceptional and a fitting way to celebrate 40 years of this glorious cultural beacon. We couldn’t be prouder to be working on such a fantastic series and look forward to welcoming all those taking part and coming along to watch and listen.”
