UK: Global RFID technology company Glownet and RFID accreditation specialists ID&C delivered a state of the art cashless payment system at the inaugural FOLD Festival in London from June 24 – 26.

Curated by Chic’s Nile Rodgers, FOLD (Freak Out Let’s Dance) issued its 7000 festivalgoers with innovative ‘digital’ laminate passes, enabling fans to make lightning-speed transactions at the food and drink concessions, while creating a secure, cashless environment. Guests were able to add money to their pass at one of the available top-up stations, before using it to make cashless purchases. The RFID passes and high tech system also benefitted ticket holders by dramatically reducing queue times, improving convenience and enhancing security.

FOLD is the first festival produced by Robomagic Live, the company formed in 2015 by ex-AEG head of live touring, Rob Hallett.

FOLD festival organiser Zane Rambaran said: “The Glownet system was exactly as promised. Fast and simple yet able to provide accurate sales data and invaluable audience purchase habits. Any first night nerves where soon shown to be unfounded as Glownet’s diligent and knowledgeable team managed the planning and on site logistics. We look forward to working with them in the future.”

Glownet CEO Scott Witters said: “It was the feedback from the FOLD audience and festival frontline crew that was the most rewarding. We are grateful to all in the Robomagic crew for helping us demonstrate again how RFID does enhance the experience for all stakeholders.”

Steve Daly of RFID accreditation specialists ID&C added: “It was a privilege to provide Robomagic with our RFID cards for FOLD Festival. The company has made a very forward-thinking decision by adopting contactless payments at their first major event – a move we expect to usher more UK promoters towards RFID technology.”

Guests of FOLD festival were given the opportunity to get a refund for any unused credit held on their RFID passes before leaving the event.

Alongside a trio of headline performances from Chic, FOLD also featured artists Beck, Labrinth, Alison Moyet and John Newman. The festival’s second leg takes place in Riverhead, New York from August 12 – 14.
