Environmental charity onboard:earth has launched a Green Travel Toolkit for Events in Wales which aims at educate event organisers in measuring and reducing their carbon footprint.
onboard:earth’ says the new set of guidelines is designed to “help organisations measure and reduce travel impacts,” and is formed of two main guides: The Green Travel Guide for Welsh Events, and A Quick Guide to Collecting Quality Travel Data.
The toolkit covers many different aspects of festival and event sustainability, including spreadsheets for accurately recording and understanding vehicle miles and emissions, policy templates, ways to collect data from third party transport providers and more.
To help create the toolkit, which is available for all to download now, was built from several case studies in how low-carbon initiatives had been successfully implemented across a range of Welsh music festivals, sporting events, and venues. These include Hay Festival, Green Man Festival, Ourea Events and more.
Lucy Scrase, Project Manager at onboard:earth and Green Travel Toolkit lead, says: “Thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s Event Wales Sector Development Fund, and the policy insights and knowledge shared by our partners, we’ve been able to tailor our best-practice tools and advice on green travel and transport to support events in Wales.
We hope this guide charts a clear, actionable path for the continual rise of low-carbon event travel across the country.”
